The Bodyboard-Depot director and team rider Rob Barber has joined fellow top Brit booger Remi Geffroy at Bundoran this week to represent England at the European Surfing Championships. The possibility was thrown open due to 2010 tour champion and 2011 Bodyboard-Depot Wedge Airshow winner Jack Johns having to pull out to shoot a Coldplay video! Conditions have been clean on the first couple of days at the Peak, in the 2-3ft range. Rob narrowly missed out on second place in his first heat against the Portuguese powerhouse and former European champion Manuel Centeno, and Pablo Pietro. He is positive and looking forward to upping his game in the days ahead however. English Surfing Federation Chairman, Andy Strut, is confident that that team will take to their opponents citing a very real hope of a European Individual title. He said: "We have a great team travelling to Ireland, expectations and morale are high and I am confident of a great team result. This trip has only been made possible with the generous financial donations and team kit from local businesses and the wider surfing industry. "We wanted to give our team the best opportunity to compete with the best of Europe and this meant taking a full management team including Judges." He added: "This current climate of austerity hasn't allowed us to find a single sponsor, so I am extremely grateful to all of the sponsors who have assisted the English Surfing Team."
